They live in colonies that may consist of 15-160 nests. There are generally four subspecies of these creatures in the world and all of them located in North America. They prefer to nest in trees near water, but some colonies can live away from water.

In the wild, these creatures’ diet consists mainly of fish, frogs, salamanders, snakes, small mammals, insects, birds and some plants. Herons of this species are able to fly 19-23 miles per hour. Females lay about 3-7 eggs in a clutch; the eggs are pale green. If you buy birds, and you do not look at their photos and pictures ahead of time, you may get a bad one.
